HEY THERE AND WELCOME TO THIS SPECIAL ORLANDO, FLORIDA EDITION OF IT-REWIND! WE RECENTLY TRAVELED DOWN TO THE SUNSHINE STATE FOR Q4 HTG MEETINGS AND COULDN’T HAVE HAD A MORE POSITIVE EXPERIENCE, WE EVEN HAD SOME WILDLIFE AT OUR BOOTH. TO CHECK OUT OUR FURRY FRIENDS, HOP ON TWITTER OR INSTAGRAM AND SEARCH #MSPJUNGLE. BUT, WHILE WE WERE CHATTING WITH PARTNERS AND PLAYING WITH BABY KANGAROOS, THE NEWS WAS STILL ROLLING IN, SO LETS SEE WHAT HAPPENED THIS WEEK!

THOUSANDS OF JAVA APPLICATIONS AND SERVERS ARE CURRENTLY AT RISK OF REMOTE CODE EXECUTION ATTACKS. THE VULNERABILITY, DISCOVERED NINE MONTHS AGO, CONTINUES TO PUT THESE APPLICATIONS IN HARMS WAY. THE FLAW IS LOCATED IN APACHE COMMONS WHICH IS USED IN MULTIPLE JAVA APPLICATION SERVERS AND PRODUCTS INCLUDING ORACLE WEBLOGIC, IBM WEBSPHERE, JBOSS AND OPEN NMS. ACCORDING TO NETWORK WORLD, THE PROBLEM STEMS FROM UNSAFE DESERIALIZATION.

SIFT SCIENCE RECENTLY ANALYZED 1.3 MILLION TRANSACTIONS FROM CUSTOMER SERVERS IN ORDER TO CREATE AN ACCURATE PROFILE OF ONLINE FRAUDSTERS. THE FINDINGS PROVIDED SOME EYE-OPENING TRENDS, LIKE THE FACT THAT USERS IDENTIFYING AS 85 TO 90 YEARS OLD HAVE THE HIGHEST RATES OF FRAUD. IN FACT, THEY’RE TWO AND A HALF TIMES MORE LIKELY TO BE FRAUDSTERS THAN AVERAGE USERS! THIS ISN’T TO SAY THAT OLD PEOPLE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL OF THE CYBERCRIME, BUT RATHER THAT HACKERS BELIEVE THAT USERS WILL BE MORE TRUSTWORTHY OF PROFILES THAT APPEAR TO COME FROM THE ELDERLY.

THAT’S JUST ABOUT ALL OF THE TIME THAT WE HAVE FOR THIS SPECIAL ORLANDO FLORIDA VERSION OF IT REWIND. READ THE FULL STORIES THAT WE COVERED TODAY AND OTHER TECH STORIES BY CHECKING OUT THE LINKS BELOW!

YOU CAN ALWAYS FIND US ON TWITTER, INSTAGRAM AND VINE AT FOLLOWCONTINUUM, AS WELL AS ON FACEBOOK, LINKEDIN, SPICEWORKS AND YOUTUBE. WE’RE ALSO NEW TO PERISCOPE, SO CHECK OUT THERE AS WELL!
