We Completed The Ice Bucket Challenge to Strike Out ALS!

Posted August 18, 2014by Mike Barnes

Ice-Bucket-Challenge
Last week, the Continuum Managed Services Marketing Team took part in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. Over the last few weeks you may have seen the huge viral phenomenon this has become, but essentially when someone nominates you to complete the challenge, you have 24 hours to pour a bucket of ice water over your head and then you nominate 3 people to do the same. If you fail to complete the challenge you’re asked to make a donation for ALS Research.

Although this is fun way to spread awareness and raise money, for me, personally, it hits close to home. Pete Frates, one of the people behind this craze, is a personal friend of mine and was diagnosed with ALS in 2012. Pete is a 29 year old former Captain of the Boston College Baseball Team, and now is unable to walk or talk on his own.

I know when he broke the news to me I wasn't quite sure what ALS really was, so if you have a couple minutes I'd highly recommend you watch this video, where Pete, his family, and others, discuss ALS and how it affects you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzeBeSHeyPs.

Since his diagnosis, Pete has taken on the disease with the same attitude that helped him as a leader of Division 1 athletes. The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has already helped raise millions of dollars and has gained global recognition with the likes of Mark Zuckerburg, Conan O’Brien, Ethel Kennedy, and a variety of professional sports teams all taking part.

To help support this great cause the Continuum Boston Team has made donations of our own and are calling out our Cranberry, PA office, our Mumbai, India office and our CEO, Michael George. You have 24 hours!

Our CEO, Michael George, accepted the challenge!!!! Now, we're just waiting on you, Mumbai and Cranberry...

If you are interested in learning more, visit http://www.petefrates.com/ to hear Pete’s story or you can donate directly to ALS research at http://www.alsa.org/.
